When a book is cased by hand, the Case-Making Gauge is irreplaceable. The gauge is used to accurately indicate where the two pieces of board (one for the front, one for the back and a piece of spine strip) are to be placed on the covering material which has been cut to size and glued. Case-making gauges are adjustable for different sizes of cases, turn-ins, and widths of inlay.
While the CMG is useful by itself, we have improved on its design. We have created a specially crafted assembly which combines a CMG with a special guide board. This assembly serves to fixate the gauge in place and to allow a clean and controlled workspace for the bookbinder. See our Case-Making Gauge Assembly product.
Teflon's® non-stick properties insure that almost nothing will stick to the case-making gauge even the stickiest glues and paints can not get a grip on its slippery surface.
Teflon® coated case making gauges are non-wetting and inert to almost every known chemical
Due to Teflon's® excellent non-stick and chemical inertness properties case-making gauge can be easily cleaned and reused helping you leverage your investment across multiple projects.
The Teflon coating will last virtually forever, if properly used, non-abused with a utility knife or the like.
